GALA Yuzawa Ski Day Trip from Tokyo (2026–27): Shinkansen, Lift Tickets and Rental

GALA Yuzawa is the easiest ski day from Tokyo: the Shinkansen stops inside the resort, 71 minutes from Tokyo Station at the fastest, and you can rent everything from skis to snow wear. The 2026–27 ski season runs from 19 December 2026 to 5 May 2027.

Buy the lift ticket online (it's ¥500 cheaper) and book rental ahead on busy days. We checked dates, prices and rental rules on GALA Yuzawa's official pages on 6 November 2026.

Why GALA Yuzawa for a ski day from Tokyo?

The resort describes itself as a station-connected ski area. You step off the Shinkansen, rent gear and buy tickets in the same building, then take the gondola up to the slopes. No bus, no car, no chains.

How much is a lift ticket, and where do I buy it?

Gondola & Lift (1 day)

Online tickets are sold through GALA Yuzawa's ticket pages (Webket and JRE MALL). Webket tickets are collected at an automatic ticket machine at the resort. If the online payment doesn't go through with your card, the same tickets are sold at the resort's ticket counter at the regular price.

PICK UP BOX: skip the queue

Book online, pay by card, and your gear waits in a box. Rental fee +¥1,000 per person, one person per booking, limited numbers, closes at 12:00 two days before.

Regular web booking

Up to four people per booking, paid by card when you book (no cancellation fee). Show the QR code. The resort says there may be a wait on the day.

Same-day counter

No booking needed, but there is no guarantee of a quick pickup. Rental booking opens one month before the season starts.

Wear rental is the jacket and pants only. Goggles rent for ¥1,800 a day and gloves are sold for ¥1,500, so bring your own if you have them.

Is the JR Tokyo Wide Pass worth it for GALA Yuzawa?

The JR Tokyo Wide Pass costs ¥16,000 for three consecutive days and lists GALA Yuzawa as a destination. For one ski day, look up the return Shinkansen fare on JR East's booking site and compare it with ¥16,000 before you buy the pass.

It pays if you add another trip within the three days, such as Nikko. JR East's own example, Tokyo – GALA Yuzawa – Omiya – Tobu-Nikko – Shinjuku, comes to about ¥21,500 in single tickets. Details in our JR Tokyo Wide Pass guide.

Book a reserved seat on the return train so you have a seat home at a fixed time.

Should I book a package instead?

Booking yourself is simple: a Shinkansen ticket, a lift ticket online, rental online. A package makes sense if you want lessons in English, or one booking that covers the train, lift and rental.

…I go before 19 December?

From 12 to 18 December only the gondola and sightseeing lift run. There is no skiing, whatever the snow.

…my train doesn't stop at GALA Yuzawa?

Get off at Echigo-Yuzawa and take the free shuttle bus, about 10 minutes.

…the rental queue is huge?
