JR TOKYO Wide Pass (2026): Is It Worth ¥16,000?

If your train tickets within 3 days would add up to more than ¥16,000, the pass is cheaper. JR East's own example, a GALA Yuzawa ski day plus Nikko, comes to about ¥21,500 in single tickets. One Kawaguchiko day trip (¥8,400 round trip) or getting around inside Tokyo doesn't get there.

The price rose to ¥16,000 on 14 March 2026. It covers JR East trains in the Tokyo region, including Shinkansen, plus the Fujikyu line to Kawaguchiko, Izu Kyuko and the Tokyo Monorail. We read JR East's official pages on 6 November 2026.

Planning Nikko and Fuji on back-to-back days? Buy the voucher before you fly and collect the pass in Japan with your passport. JR EAST Travel Service Centers at Narita and Haneda airports sell it too.

Is the JR TOKYO Wide Pass worth it?

JR East's own example: Tokyo to GALA Yuzawa and back to Omiya by Joetsu Shinkansen, then Omiya to Tobu-Nikko and back to Shinjuku by the Nikko limited express, reserved seats. That adds up to about ¥21,500, it says, against ¥16,000 for the pass.

Kawaguchiko day trip by Fuji Excursion
¥8,400 round trip from ShinjukuWhen you reserve, ask at the ticket office whether the Fuji Excursion's reserved seat costs extra with the pass.
Narita Airport → Tokyo by N'EX
¥3,140
JR East's example (GALA Yuzawa + Nikko)
About ¥21,500 in single tickets
JR TOKYO Wide Pass
¥16,000, about ¥5,500 less than the example

One Kawaguchiko day trip alone (¥8,400) is far below the pass price, and adding N'EX from Narita (¥3,140) still doesn't reach ¥16,000. Add up the single tickets for your own 3 days; if the total passes ¥16,000, the pass is cheaper.

Buy a ticket for the part beyond Sakudaira at a ticket office first. JR East says you can then stay on the train.
