Himeji Castle Tickets (2026): The ¥2,500 Price, Timed Entry, and How to Book Online

Why is Himeji Castle ¥2,500 now?

From March 1, 2026, Himeji City split the price. Adults 18 and over pay ¥2,500. Himeji residents aged 18 to 64 pay ¥1,000 after verifying their address online. Everyone under 18 is free, whether they live in Himeji or not. There's also a ¥5,000 annual pass, sold only at the counter.

One more date to know: December 11 is a free admission day, and the ticket site sells no tickets for it.

How do you book Himeji Castle tickets online?

The official ticket site has an English version. It takes a few minutes, and you need a card that supports 3D Secure.

1. Open himejicastle-ticket.jp and switch to English. Pick Himeji Castle Admission Ticket (¥2,500), or Himeji Castle + Kokoen Garden (¥2,600) if you want the garden too.
2. Choose your date and a 30-minute entry slot. Slots run from 9:00 to 16:00. Morning slots give you time for the garden afterwards.
3. Enter the number of visitors. The site lists an under-18 child ticket at ¥0 next to the adult ticket. Don't pick the resident price: it needs verification with a Japanese My Number Card.
4. Pay by card, then check your email for the QR code. Staff scan it at the gate. Save a screenshot in case you're offline.

How far ahead should you book, and can you buy at the gate?

The official ticket page doesn't state how far ahead booking opens. On Nov 6, 2026 the calendar showed November dates open. Since cancellation is free until your slot starts, booking a few days ahead costs nothing.

The ticket site says some visitors must buy on site: people with a disability certificate and their caregiver, and Himeji residents 65 and over. Everyone else should book online before going.

Can you change the date or time?

Not directly. To change the date, time or number of people, you cancel and buy again. Cancellation is free up to the start of your slot, so this only hurts if the new slot has sold out. There's no re-entry once you've gone in.

What should you know before going inside?

• ✅Shoes come off in the main keep. The castle asks visitors to bring a shoe bag.
• ✅The stairs inside are steep and there are no elevators in the keep or turrets.
• ✅Strollers and pets can't go in. Leave big bags in a station locker.

The castle is lit up white from sunset to midnight, so the outside is worth a look after dinner too.

Should you book Himeji Castle through Klook or a tour?

For the ticket alone, the official site is the way: it's the real price, free to cancel until your slot, and sold in English. Tours make sense when Himeji is one stop on a longer day, like Kobe or Arima Onsen. Before you book a tour, check whether it includes the ¥2,500 castle ticket.
