Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum Tickets (2026): Web Tickets, Queues and When Booking Is Required
The Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum costs only ¥200 for adults, but the line to buy a ticket on the day can take a while. The museum's own advice is to buy a web ticket in advance. For the first and last hour of each day a web ticket is the only way in, and for overseas visitors the museum sells it through Klook.
On Nov 6, 2026 we read the museum's English visiting pages, its notices and its live congestion page. Everything below comes from those pages.

Do you need to book the Peace Memorial Museum?
For most of the day, no, but it helps. The museum says same-day tickets can take a while to buy, and recommends a web ticket bought ahead. Even with one, you may still be asked to wait when it's crowded.
For the first and last hour of the day, yes. The museum page says: "ONLINE RESERVATION IS REQUIRED to enter 7:30–8:30 or 17:30–18:30." The museum itself recommends visiting in these slots, which are capped at 300 visitors each.
The museum's English home page lists the hours, the reserved-only slots and the ¥200 / ¥100 / free prices above.
It also warns that web tickets may sell out before the last entry time.
The museum's web ticket page says tickets go on sale at midnight 90 days before the visit date, that it uses Klook for overseas sales and asoview for domestic sales, and that you can't change the date or number of people after buying: you cancel and buy again.
The ticket counter and machines sell same-day tickets only outside the reserved slots (8:30–17:30 from September to November).
How to buy the official web ticket
- Open the museum's English site and tap the web ticket banner. The English banner links to the Klook listing for permanent exhibition admission. (The other banner, hpmmuseum.urkt.in, is for school groups and groups of 30 or more.)
- Pick the date and a time slot. Dates open 90 days ahead. If you want the early slot, choose 7:30–8:30. Each reserved slot is capped at 300 visitors.
- Choose the number of adults and high school students, then pay. Children of junior high age and younger are free. Check the final price on Klook before you pay; your card charge depends on the exchange rate.
- Keep the ticket on your phone. Show it at the entrance. The museum says you can't change the date or group size after buying; you cancel and buy again. Read Klook's refund terms on the listing before you pay. You'll need data for the QR ticket, the bus and maps. A Japan eSIM is the simplest fix.Compare Japan eSIMs on Klook ↗
When is it least crowded?
The museum doesn't publish busy hours, but it does run live cameras on its State of Congestion page: outside the entrance, the East Building 1F entrance and the 3F corridor. Check them before you walk over.
First hour, 7:30–8:30
Web ticket required. Up to 300 visitors per slot.
Last hour
17:30–18:30 (Dec–Feb 16:30–17:30). Web ticket required. Leave enough time: last entry is 30 minutes before closing.
Is it closed when I'm visiting?
Even with a web ticket, the museum says you may have to wait, or may not get in exactly at your slot time, when it's crowded.
How long does the visit take, and is it suitable for children?
The museum's route guide for the main building takes about 30 minutes. Add time for the East Building, and for Peace Memorial Park and the Atomic Bomb Dome outside.
The exhibits show the real effects of the bombing, including personal belongings and photographs of injuries. It's a serious visit. Parents of young children may want to look at the route guide first. Audio guides in 15 languages, including English, rent for ¥500 at the counter on the 1st floor of the East Building.
Getting there from Hiroshima Station
Hiroden streetcars take IC cards such as ICOCA and Suica. Since July 1, 2026 you tap when you board and again when you get off. Coming from Tokyo or Osaka? See Tokyo to Hiroshima by Shinkansen and whether the Kansai-Hiroshima Area Pass pays off.
