Kansai–Hiroshima Area Pass (2026): Is It Worth It?
If you're going from Osaka or Kyoto to Hiroshima and back within 5 days, yes: one Shinkansen round trip already costs more than the pass. If Hiroshima isn't on your plan, a cheaper pass or ICOCA fits better.
The pass costs ¥17,000 and includes the Sanyo Shinkansen between Shin-Osaka and Hiroshima, HARUKA from Kansai Airport and the JR ferry to Miyajima. We read JR West's official page on 6 November 2026. It still says its information is current as of 1 August 2024, so check the price before you pay.

Does it pay off? The Osaka–Hiroshima maths
The single fare that matters is the Shinkansen. JR Central's fare revision notice lists Shin-Osaka–Hiroshima by Nozomi, reserved seat, at ¥10,950.
HARUKA from Kansai Airport and the JR Miyajima Ferry come on top of that saving, because the pass covers both. Note: Nozomi fares go up for tickets bought from 1 July 2027. JR West's pass page names the Sanyo Shinkansen but not the train types, so when you reserve, ask at the ticket office which trains your pass can be used on.
Kansai–Hiroshima Pass or the Japan Rail Pass?
What does it cover?
Areas JR West lists for the pass: Kansai, Shiga, Hyogo, Nara, Tottori, Okayama and Hiroshima. So Himeji Castle and Okayama fit on the way.

How to collect it and book seats
Collect the pass
Online buyers need the reservation number, their 4-digit ID, the card they paid with and their passport. Voucher holders show the voucher and passport at an exchange office.
Reserve a Shinkansen seat if you want one
Reserved and non-reserved seats are both covered. To use a reserved seat, book it before boarding; from the 7th booking, JR West sends you to a ticket office. Trains that are all-reserved have no non-reserved cars.
Board the ferry with the pass at Miyajimaguchi
Pay the ¥100 visitor tax separately when you board.
What if…?
…I have a big suitcase?
On the Sanyo Shinkansen, bags of 160–250 cm (three sides added) need a reserved seat with an oversized baggage area. Book it with your seat.
Oversized luggage rules →…I want to go on to Fukuoka?
Hiroshima–Hakata isn't covered. Buy that leg separately, or compare the JR Pass.
Osaka to Fukuoka by Shinkansen →…a train is cancelled?
The pass isn't extended. Refunds are only before use, at JR exchange counters in Japan, minus 10% (at least ¥220).
