SCMAGLEV and Railway Park Tickets (2026): Price, Simulators and How to Get There from Nagoya

SCMAGLEV and Railway Park is JR Central's museum of Shinkansen, maglev and older trains, 24 minutes from Nagoya Station. You don't need to book ahead: tickets are sold at the door, and the official date-specified online ticket only saves you the ticket queue.

What does need planning is the Shinkansen driving simulator. It is sold on the day, first come, first served, and you can't reserve it. On Nov 7, 2026 we checked the museum's English and Japanese pages and JR Central's price notice; the details are below.

Want to skip the ticket machine? Buy the official online ticket, or a Klook voucher if you'd rather pay in your own currency.

The museum's English facilities page lists adults at ¥1,200, school children ¥500 and children 3+ ¥200, with group prices in brackets.

JR Central's press release of Jan 23, 2025 says the adult price rose by ¥200 from June 1, 2025. Older guides that still say ¥1,000 are out of date.

The Japanese home page links to the online ticket shop (webket) for date-specified tickets. Read the refund rules on the shop page before you pay.

How do you get a go on the Shinkansen simulator?

There are two kinds of simulator:

Shinkansen

Bought at the Information Booth inside, first come, first served. You need that day's admission ticket, and you can't choose your time.

Conventional lines

Conventional train simulators

¥10010 minutesTicket machine

Bought from the simulator's own ticket machine. Runs 10:00–17:30.

  1. Arrive before the 10:00 opening if the Shinkansen simulator matters to you. Simulator tickets are sold first come, first served at the Information Booth.
  2. Go straight to the Information Booth after the gate, before you look at the trains. Buy the simulator ticket first, then explore.
  3. Note the time on your ticket and come back to the simulator room then. The museum assigns the slot; you can't choose it.
Simulator tickets are first come, first served and can't be reserved. If the simulator is the main reason for your visit, be there when the museum opens.

How to get there from Nagoya Station

  1. Find the Aonami Line platforms at Nagoya Station . It's a separate company from JR, with its own gates.
  2. Ride to the last stop, Kinjofuto . The trip takes about 24 minutes. An IC card such as Suica or ICOCA works; the fare is ¥360 for adults and ¥180 for children.
  3. Walk about 2 minutes to the museum. There is no museum car park; drivers use the neighbouring lot.

The Aonami Line isn't a JR line, and it isn't on the Japan Rail Pass list of covered non-JR lines. You'll pay the fare separately even with a pass. How to use Suica and ICOCA →

Coming from Tokyo or Osaka? Take the Shinkansen to Nagoya, then the Aonami Line from the same station.

Is it worth the trip?

If you like trains, yes. The museum shows 39 real trains, from Shinkansen and conventional trains to the MLX01 maglev test vehicle, plus what it calls the largest diorama in Japan. Allow extra time if you queue for a simulator.

The museum is about trains only. If they don't interest you, look at Nagoya Castle or a Ghibli Park day instead.
