Fukuoka: What to Book Before You Go (2026)
Fukuoka is one of the easiest cities in Japan to arrive in: the airport subway reaches Hakata in 5 minutes and Tenjin in 11. Food stalls, ramen, shrines and the city itself need no booking at all.
What does need planning is the trip out. JR Kyushu says its Yufuin no Mori sightseeing train is fully booked day after day, and whether the JR Kyushu Rail Pass pays off depends on how far you go. We read the official pages for the prices below on 7 November 2026.
Some links on this page are affiliate links. We say when the official site or the station is just as good or cheaper.

Is the JR Kyushu Rail Pass worth it?
Not for Fukuoka city or Dazaifu: the subway and the Nishitetsu line to Dazaifu aren't JR. It starts to pay off when you add long JR rides such as Yufuin, Nagasaki, Kumamoto or Kagoshima. It does not cover the Sanyo Shinkansen from Hakata to Kokura or anything towards Osaka.
