Fukuoka Airport to Hakata and Tenjin (2026): Subway, Bus or Taxi?
Fukuoka Airport sits close to the city centre. From the domestic terminal, the subway reaches Hakata in 5 minutes and Tenjin in 11, with no booking and no change of train.
Landing at the international terminal adds one step: a free shuttle bus to the domestic terminal, or a direct city bus. We checked times and fares on the airport's and Fukuoka City Subway's official pages on 6 November 2026.

Which terminal are you landing at?
Subway
The subway station is right under the terminal. Hakata in 5 minutes, Tenjin in 11.
Shuttle, then subway
Take the free shuttle bus from stop 5 to the domestic terminal (about 10 min), then walk down to the subway.
City bus
Buses from stops 6 and 7 go to Hakata Station, and from stop 8 to Tenjin. No stairs, no transfer.
Taxi
Hakata is close, so a taxi is a short ride. The fare is metered, and the rank is outside the terminal.
Subway, bus and taxi compared
Planning more than two subway rides on your first day? The 1 Day Pass costs ¥640 (children ¥320) and is sold at every ticket machine.
How do I take the subway from the airport?
From the international terminal, take the free shuttle
After arrivals, go to bus stop 5 and board the free inter-terminal shuttle. Get off at the domestic terminal's south bus area, which is next to subway entrances 1A and 1B.
Go down to Fukuoka Kuko Station
Follow the subway signs down the escalator. Wheelchair and stroller users can use the south elevator in the domestic terminal.
Tap an IC card, or buy a ticket
Suica, ICOCA and other nationwide IC cards work here. Without one, buy a ticket at the machine: ¥260 for Hakata or Tenjin.
Ride to Hakata (K11) or Tenjin (K08)
Fukuoka Kuko is the end of the line, so every train leaving it heads towards Hakata. You can't go the wrong way.
When is the bus better than the subway?
From the international terminal, a direct bus saves you the shuttle and the stairs. That matters with two big suitcases or small children.
From the domestic terminal, take the subway: it runs underground, so road traffic doesn't affect it.
What if…?
…I land after the last train?
The subway runs until about 0:25. After that, take a taxi from the terminal's taxi rank.
…I'm going straight on by Shinkansen?

…I don't have an IC card?
You don't need one for this trip. If you already carry Suica or ICOCA from another city, it works here too. How Suica works →
