Kinosaki Onsen from Kyoto or Osaka (2026): Getting There, the Seven Baths and Whether to Stay
Kinosaki is a small hot-spring town on the Sea of Japan side, with seven public bathhouses along a willow-lined canal. Day visitors buy one pass for all of them for ¥1,500, and every bathhouse accepts tattoos, which is rare in Japan. One of the seven, Satono-yu, is closed for renovation.
It is a long way for a day: about 2.5 hours each way by limited express from Kyoto or Osaka. Staying one night in a ryokan is the better plan, and most ryokan give their guests a free pass to the baths.

Planning more of Kansai?
Kinosaki works best as one night inside a bigger Kansai loop. If that loop has two long train rides or more, look at the Kansai Wide Area Pass.
