Yokohama Day Trip from Tokyo (2026): Trains, Passes and What to Book
Yokohama is the easiest day trip from Tokyo: a regular commuter train, no reservation, and you pay with your Suica. You don't need a tour or a pass bought in advance.
The only things worth planning are the Cup Noodles Museum workshop (it uses numbered tickets on the day) and, if you'll hop around a lot, the ¥460 Minatomirai Line one-day pass. We checked the operators' official pages on 7 November 2026.

How do I get to Yokohama from Tokyo?
Pick by where you start. All three routes are ordinary trains: no seat booking, no paper ticket needed if you have a Suica or PASMO.
Tokyu Toyoko Line
The most direct way to the harbour side. Ride to Minatomirai or Motomachi-Chukagai (Chinatown) if your train runs through. Pay with your IC card.
JR Tokaido or Keihin-Tohoku Line
JR to Yokohama, then change to the Minatomirai Line. Keihin-Tohoku trains continue as the Negishi Line to Sakuragicho and Kannai. Pay with your IC card.
Keikyu from Haneda
About 23 minutes from Terminal 3 and 28 minutes from Terminals 1·2 to Yokohama. A good first or last stop if you land or leave from Haneda.
Is the Minatomirai Line one-day pass worth it?
Verdict: the line is short, and Minatomirai, Bashamichi and Chinatown are walkable from each other. Three rides such as Yokohama → Minatomirai → Motomachi-Chukagai → back to Yokohama come to ¥630 by paper ticket (¥200 + ¥200 + ¥230), so the pass saves a little. With two rides or fewer it doesn't pay off.
Tokyu and JR also sell combined tickets: the Tokyu Minatomirai Pass (a discounted return from any Tokyu station plus the one-day pass, from Tokyu ticket machines) and the Yokohama Minatomirai Pass (Minatomirai Line plus JR between Yokohama and Shin-Sugita). The Minatomirai Line page we read does not list their prices, so check the price on the ticket machine before you buy.
What does a good Yokohama day look like?
- 10:00 (opening)Cup Noodles Museum. Go first if you want My CUPNOODLES Factory: it's numbered tickets on the day.
- Late morningWalk past the Red Brick Warehouse to Yamashita Park along the water.
- LunchLunch in Chinatown (Motomachi-Chukagai Station).
- AfternoonBack toward Minatomirai. Ride the Yokohama Air Cabin from the Unga Park side to Sakuragicho.
- EveningThe bay from the Sakuragicho side, then the train back to Tokyo.
This is a suggested order, not a schedule we ran. Order them to suit your start station: from Shibuya, start in Chinatown and work north; from JR, start at Sakuragicho.
Do I need to book the Cup Noodles Museum?
The cup workshop hands out numbered tickets in the order visitors enter, and once they are all gone it stops taking people for the day, so arriving at opening is the simple way to get one. The workshop page also mentions advance online tickets; check the current rules there before you go.
Is the Yokohama Air Cabin worth it?
It's a short ride: the walk between the two stations along the water is pleasant and free. Take it one way, at dusk, if you want the view; skip the round trip.
What if…?
…the cup workshop tickets are gone?
You can still enter the museum and see the exhibits for ¥500. Or come back another day when the museum opens.
…it rains?
Stay indoors around Minatomirai: the Cup Noodles Museum, the Red Brick Warehouse shops, and the malls by Sakuragicho are a short walk apart.
…I want to add Kamakura?
It's doable but makes a long day. Kamakura is better as its own trip. Kamakura day trip →

Yokohama takes no booking. The Tokyo sights sold by date and time slot (SHIBUYA SKY, teamLab, the Ghibli Museum) are worth sorting before you fly.
