Kansai Airport to Kyoto (2026): HARUKA Ticket, Pass or Airport Bus?

Take the HARUKA limited express: it runs from Kansai Airport to Kyoto Station without a change. With a foreign passport, buy the HARUKA One-way Ticket for ¥2,700 before you fly. It can't be bought in Japan. If you'll ride JR again the same day, the WEST QR Kansai Area Pass costs the same and covers the whole day.

The airport bus to Kyoto Station (¥2,800, about 1 h 25 min) is the pick for heavy bags. We read the prices on JR West's and Kansai Airport Transportation Enterprise's official pages on 6 November 2026.

How to buy and ride HARUKA

Buy before you fly

Official: JR-WEST Online Train Reservation, from one month before travel at 10:00 JST, credit card only (no virtual or numberless cards). Or an agency outside Japan sells an E-TICKET, which you must exchange within 3 months.

Collect it at Kansai Airport Station

At the JR ticket machine or office, use the reservation number, your 4-digit ID number, the same credit card, and your passport. Machines need an IC-chip passport.

Reserve a seat (optional)

Seat tickets for the One-way Ticket are issued at the machine or office. You can change the train once before it leaves, if seats are free.

Mobile data from the moment you land helps with the QR pass and maps.

Ride to Kyoto and don't get off early

With the One-way Ticket you can't stop at stations on the way; getting off invalidates it. Stay on to Kyoto.

What are the rules on the HARUKA One-way Ticket?

  • Foreign passport, entering as Temporary Visitor (短期滞在). Japanese nationals can't use it, even with residency abroad
  • One ticket of the same kind per person for the same period
  • Price is set by the purchase date, not the travel date
  • You can change the start date once, and the stations once, before use
  • Refund before use: the price minus a fee (minimum ¥560). No refund once used
  • Green Car and other limited expresses need extra tickets

What if…?

…I'm already in Japan and didn't buy it?

Neither the One-way Ticket nor the WEST QR pass is sold in Japan. Buy a regular HARUKA ticket at the station, or take the bus.

…my flight lands late?

The last HARUKA leaves Kansai Airport at 22:16 and reaches Kyoto at 23:32 (JR West timetable, November 2026). The Kyoto bus timetable is on Kansai Airport Transportation Enterprise's site. After that, stay near the airport or in Osaka.

Kansai Airport to Osaka →

…I'm taking the bus back to the airport?

Buses from Kyoto to Kansai Airport need a reservation, through the Keihan Bus reservation centre or its booking site.

…my hotel is far from Kyoto Station?

Most temples are a bus or subway ride from the station, which HARUKA tickets don't cover.

Kansai Airport Transportation Enterprise's Kyoto route page: ¥2,800, about 1 h 25 min–1 h 30 min, reservations needed toward the airport.

JR West's train timetable (JR Odekake Net, November 2026): HARUKA takes about 75–80 minutes to Kyoto; the last one leaves Kansai Airport at 22:16 and arrives at 23:32. We don't quote a regular HARUKA price because we couldn't read it on JR West's site.

Next: getting around Kyoto

Once you're at Kyoto Station, the city's buses and subway take over.
