SHIBUYA SKY Sunset Tickets (2026): When They Go on Sale, Which Slot to Pick, and What Changes on Nov 19

You want the rooftop at sunset. Tickets go on sale exactly two weeks before your date, at 00:00 Japan time, in 20-minute entry slots.

The short answer: book on the official site the night sales open, pick a slot that gets you to the rooftop before sunset, and stay as long as you like. There is no time limit once you're in.

Your sunset slot already gone on the official site? Klook and KKday are official resellers, so they're worth a quick check. The official pages don't mention separate stock for them.

When do SHIBUYA SKY tickets go on sale?

Each day's tickets go on sale two weeks ahead at midnight Japan time. For a visit on Saturday the 20th, that is 00:00 on Saturday the 6th in Japan. In the Americas or Europe, that moment falls on the afternoon or evening before, so put your date in below.

What the official pages said on Nov 7, 2026

The FAQ says tickets go on sale "2 weeks before the visit date, from 00:00 Japan time", and the counter sells the same 2-week window.

It also says that when adult web tickets sell out, the counter is sold out too. So if your slot is sold out online, the counter can't sell it to you either.

Which time slot catches the sunset?

Slots start every 20 minutes and you can stay until closing. So the trick is to arrive before the light changes, not at the exact sunset time. Pick a slot that leaves time to get up the lifts, lock your bag away and find a spot on the rooftop before the sun goes down. Tokyo sunset times by month (National Astronomical Observatory of Japan):

December
Sunset 16:28–16:37
January
Sunset 16:38–17:07
March
Sunset 17:36–18:02
June–July
Sunset 18:47–19:01
September
Sunset 18:09 → 17:27
The ¥700 trick in winter. Price depends on entry time, not on how long you stay. A 14:40 slot costs ¥2,700, a 15:00 slot ¥3,400. In winter you can enter at 14:40, see Tokyo by day, and stay for the sunset and the night view. The catch: the rooftop can close in bad weather, and you'd be waiting longer.

How to book on the official site

Be ready a few minutes before midnight Japan time, with the passports of everyone in your group to hand.

  1. Open the official ticket page and choose your date. Dates more than two weeks out can't be booked yet.
  2. Pick a 20-minute entry slot and the number of adults. The price changes at the 15:00 slot. Children's tickets aren't sold online; buy them at the 14F counter on the day.
  3. Enter each visitor's passport details and pay. For visits from November 19, 2026, overseas buyers are checked by passport at the gate. If the passport details entered at purchase don't match the passport shown at entry, that person can't go in.
  4. Keep the email with your QR codes. The site emails QR codes for everyone in the group to the buyer. From Nov 19, 2026 overseas buyers enter by passport instead, but keep the email as your booking record.
You'll want mobile data in Shibuya for maps, the confirmation email and the rooftop photos. A Japan eSIM is the easiest fix.

What changes for entries from November 19, 2026?

For visits on or after November 19, 2026, overseas buyers on the official site and anyone who booked through Klook, KKday or Trip.com enter by passport check. Everyone in the group must bring their own passport. You don't need to show the QR code.

Japan residents who bought on the official site still enter with QR codes. Counter tickets are paper. Tickets from other official agents are exchanged at the 14F counter first.

What can't I take onto the rooftop?

  • No bags of any kind, including pouches: use the lockers on 46F (H32 × W37.5 × D43 cm)
  • No hats or caps, earphones or headphones, food or drinks
  • No tripods, monopods or selfie sticks outdoors (indoors on 46F they're allowed, but may be refused when it's crowded)
  • Phones and cameras small enough for a pocket or on a neck strap are fine
  • Don't bring suitcases or other large luggage in: leave them in a locker near the station first
  • No pockets? Ask at the 46F information desk for a loan bag

What if the rooftop is closed by rain or wind?

The rooftop can close without notice for rain, wind, lightning, snow or extreme heat. The indoor 46F gallery stays open. If the rooftop is closed at your entry time, web tickets can be cancelled free on the day, before you go in. Once you've entered, there are no refunds. SHIBUYA SKY posts the rooftop status on its official X account.

Sunset is sold out: what now?

Your choices are the official resellers, a later slot, another day, or another view. Cancellations can also reopen a slot on the official site.

Is SHIBUYA SKY worth ¥3,400?

If you want to stand outside on a rooftop over central Tokyo, yes: that is what sets it apart from indoor observation decks.

It is less worth it on a wet or windy day, when you may only get the indoor floor. If your dates are flexible, book early and cancel an eligible web ticket by the day before if the forecast turns. Cancellation is per payment: you can't cancel only some of the tickets bought together.
