Osaka Amazing Pass (2026): Is It Worth It, and How to Use the QR Pass
You're spending a day or two sightseeing in Osaka and wondering whether the Amazing Pass is a good deal. Add up the official reference prices of the sights you'll visit that day: if they come to more than ¥3,500, the pass pays off before you count any fares. If you only want Osaka Castle and some shopping, it doesn't.
The 2026 pass is a QR code on your phone, with no child price. We added up the official reference prices for the included sights on 6 November 2026. The sums below use those numbers.
Some links on this page are affiliate links. We show the official way to buy first and say when it costs the same.
Is the Osaka Amazing Pass worth it? A typical day, added up
Here is one sample one-day route, priced at the reference prices on the official pass site:
The honest flip side: if you only go up Osaka Castle (¥1,200) and spend the afternoon shopping in Namba, a ¥3,500 pass loses money. Use an IC card instead. See ICOCA.
What does the pass cover, and what doesn't it?
Trains and buses
All Osaka Metro lines and Osaka City Bus (some routes excluded). Also Hankyu, Hanshin, Keihan, Kintetsu and Nankai trains, mainly inside central Osaka.
About 40 sights
Once per sight per day. On the 2-day pass, once per sight for the whole two days. Boats and Tsutenkaku give you a timed ticket at the counter.
JR lines
The JR Osaka Loop Line, JR trains to Kyoto or Nara and the Haruka airport express all cost extra.
USJ and the aquarium
Universal Studios Japan and Kaiyukan are not on the list. Book them separately.
How do you buy and use it?
- Buy the pass online. The official site links to its sales page on SURUTTO QRtto. You can buy before your trip, but you must start it within 3 months of buying, and by 31 March 2027 at the latest.
- On the day, tap Start after 3:00 a.m. Tap (利用開始する) Start once you are out for the day. If you start it between midnight and 2:59 a.m., it stops working at 3:00 a.m., so don't start it on a late night out.
- Scan the QR code at the gate. Hold the QR code to the reader on the ticket gate. On buses, show it when you get off. At each sight, show it at the entrance or exchange it for a timed ticket. The pass needs your phone online all day: no data, no QR code. A Japan eSIM is the simplest fix.Japan eSIM on Klook ↗
- Get boat tickets early. The Tombori River Cruise and the Gozabune give out timed tickets on the day. The official page says evening Tombori boats sell out early, so collect the ticket during the day and come back later.
1-day, 2-day or an airport version?
1-day pass · ¥3,500
One full sightseeing day. Start early: the Osaka Castle tower closes at 18:00 (last entry 17:30), and the Umeda Sky deal ends at 15:00.
2-day pass · ¥5,000
Two consecutive days for ¥1,500 more. Each sight still counts only once, so it pays off only if you fill both days.
Kansai Airport 28-hour · ¥5,300
Adds one Nankai ride from Kansai Airport to Namba and lasts 28 hours from the start. Airport buses aren't included. See Kansai Airport to Osaka.
Itami Airport version · ¥3,800 / ¥5,400
Adds the Osaka Monorail and Expo '70 Commemorative Park. Not valid at Kansai Airport.
What if…?
…my phone dies?
The pass lives on your phone, and the official site says screenshots and printouts can't be used. Carry a power bank.
…I'm travelling with children?
There is no child price. For a child, add up the child admissions at the sights you plan to visit and compare them with the ¥3,500 adult price.
…I'm going to Kyoto or Nara as well?
This pass covers only central Osaka. For Osaka plus Kyoto, Nara or Kobe on private railways, look at the KANSAI RAILWAY PASS. For JR, see which pass.
…a boat is cancelled?
Boats stop in bad weather. The official site says there are no refunds for weather, and none once the pass has been used, so plan a rainy-day option such as the castle or a museum.

Plan the day around it
Still deciding?
Add up the paid sights you really want to see in one day. If their reference prices come to more than ¥3,500, buy the pass. If not, pay as you go with an IC card. The current pass is sold until 31 March 2027, so check the official site again if you travel after that. See also our Osaka guide.
